What's the best way to eat seafood?

2024-08-13   read:114

In terms of staple food, people who are prone to diarrhea after eating seafood are suitable to drink some warm glutinous rice porridge or brown rice porridge. Hot porridge can not only warm and comfort the stomach and intestines, but also promote the excretion of uric acid. Nowadays, people serve a lot of seafood at banquets, eat on an empty stomach, and then eat some rice at the end. This is very unhealthy. If you drink some hot porridge first and then eat a moderate amount of seafood, you will feel much more comfortable. If you already feel weak or painful in the stomach and intestines, drink hot ginger soup quickly, then add hot porridge to recuperate, and you will be back to normal in a few hours.

Men's concerns about gout are not without reason. Although seafood itself will not directly cause gout attacks, once a physique prone to gout is formed, eating seafood and drinking beer is very dangerous. Seafood and river food themselves have high purine content, and a large amount of beer also brings considerable purine. In addition, alcohol itself promotes uric acid production, which can be said to be adding insult to injury.

Who is prone to gout? Although the cause has not been fully understood, we can get a rough idea by looking at the condition of the patient. First, the person is relatively fat, or although he does not look fat, his body fat content is high, which is a relatively "noisy" type; second, lack of exercise, soft muscles, poor physical fitness, and insufficient yang energy; third, love to drink and eat high-protein food. If all three factors are present, you should be careful when eating seafood.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that excessive consumption of seafood, beer and cold drinks will damage the spleen and stomach, causing gout. Western nutrition studies have found that in addition to beer, drinking a lot of sweet drinks will also increase the risk of gout. This is because sweet drinks are rich in sucrose (glucose + fructose) or fructose, and fructose is a factor that promotes the formation of uric acid. Even pure fruit juice may contain a lot of fructose. Fruits such as watermelon and grapes are also rich in fructose, and eating too much is not conducive to controlling uric acid. --There have been many recent research advances on the impact of drinking sweet drinks and fruit juice on the occurrence of gout, and I will talk to you in detail in future blog posts. On the contrary, eating staple foods of grains is beneficial and harmless, because starchy foods promote the excretion of uric acid, especially coarse grains and potatoes rich in potassium, which are beneficial to gout patients.

People think that seafood is easy to digest because its protein is delicate and does not seem to require the stomach to do too much work, but this is not the case. When protein comes, gastric acid and pepsin need to be secreted, and the pancreas has to work overtime to produce more trypsin. Protein is generally more difficult to digest than carbohydrates, and it is more troublesome to metabolize it in the later stage, which will cause a considerable burden on the liver and kidneys. Because seafood contains a high proportion of protein and the amount eaten is often relatively large, a large amount of protein needs the liver to help turn into urea, and then the urea needs to be cleared, and a large amount of uric acid also needs to be excreted, all of which are the work of the kidneys. Add beer, beverages, etc., and the kidneys will have to work even harder.
